Representatives from DNREC, with support from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), will participate in the Greater Hockessin Area Development Association (GHADA) meeting on June 19 to update the community on the Hockessin Ground Water Plume Site. The site consists of approx. 32 acres along Route 41 in Hockessin.
The update will take place as part of the GHADA meeting at 7:00 pm at the Hockessin Memorial Hall, 610 Yorklyn Rd, Hockessin, DE 19707. DNREC is requesting federal assistance from the EPA to address ground water concerns in the Hockessin area, and assist in determining the sources of contamination in the area. The EPA has been assisting DNREC in investigating the ground water contamination in some Hockessin ground water wells that supply the Hockessin area's drinking water. The public drinking water in the area is provided by Artesian Water Company, and is treated to remove volatile organic compounds. The finished drinking water continues to meet federal and state safe drinking water standards, according to Artesian's annual water quality reports.
