A public workshop for the New Road Corridor Master Plan will take place on Tuesday, November 27th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cape Henlopen High School Cafeteria/Atrium. The workshop will include time to review displays describing the initial set of concepts and recommendations under consideration for the corridor. Representatives from the planning team, the City of Lewes, Sussex County, and DelDOT Planning will be on hand to discuss the projects objectives.
A presentation will be held at 5:30 PM followed by questions and open discussion. The project involves a collaboration between the City of Lewes, Sussex County, the Delaware Department of Transportation, the Lewes Historic Byway, and those that live along, work nearby or use New Road on a daily basis. Funding for the master plan has been provided by Senator Lopez and Representative Smyk for the purpose of coordinating potential changes to the road and public right-of-way in advance of future development in the corridor. Similar to the Master Plan developed in 2016 for Kings Highway and Gills Neck Road, the New Road Corridor Master Plan will help to define the desired future character of New Road in the face of changing land use, flooding and drainage problems, non-motorized accessibility and recreational opportunities, and anticipated vehicular transportation projects along New Road. The planning effort is being led by Lardner/Klein Landscape Architects, PC and Delaware Greenways, Inc.
