The Trauma Awareness Month Steering Committee has been established to engage the public in the planning of Delaware's Inaugural Trauma Awareness Month in May of 2019. The Committee will meet in January, February and March of 2019 to organize and submit events to the state for consideration on the Trauma Awareness Month calendar of events. Membership to the Committee is fluid and based on participation from members of state government and from the public. All are welcome to participate.
On October 17, 2018, Governor John Carney signed Executive Order 24 , to make Delaware a Trauma-Informed state. The Executive Order addresses the impact of various kinds of trauma and adversity across the lifespan and across multiple life domains. The Family Services Cabinet Council is charged with promoting May as "Trauma Awareness Month, with events held and publicized throughout the state. A public Steering Group is convened to support this inaugural recognition and is encouraging organizations to create or build on existing events in May, 2019. The launch will be publicized through a media campaign and events will be posted to a public, shared calendar. The Steering Group welcomes participation and input from organizations across the state.
