Synagro Technologies Inc. has applied to the Surface Water Discharges Section for a permit for the distribution and marketing of Class A/Exceptional Quality biosolids fertilizer products throughout the State of Delaware. The Division of Water will hold a virtual public hearing (Docket #2020-P-W-0016) on an application from Synagro Technologies for a permit to sell biosolids fertilizer products in Delaware. Public Comment Period Open Through July 6, 2020.
Synagros permit application proposes distributing and marketing Class A Exceptional Quality biosolids, generated in the City of Philadelphia Wastewater Treatment Plants, in the State of Delaware. To achieve the Class A/EQ biosolids designation, the biosolids are required to be heated to at least 80 C (176 F) and the moisture content be raised to at least 90% solids. Additionally, it is required that the finished product be sampled for specific bacteria and chemical parameters to demonstrate that State and Federal requirements are met. Treatment renders the biosolids suitable for use as a fertilizer.
Please note that live comments will not be accepted during the virtual hearing. Written comments may be submitted to the Hearing Officer via the online comment form at dnrec.alpha.delaware.gov/publichearings/comment-form/, via email to DNRECHearingComments@delaware.gov, or via USPS to Lisa A.
